What is Endometriosis you ask? Allow me to explain! 

Endometriosis is a condition where the tissue that line the womb is found outside of the womb like ovaries or Fallopian tubes. Mainly effects girls and women of childbearing age. It is a long term condition that can have a significant impact on your life.

 Symptoms include but are not limited to;

  • pain in your lower tummy or back, sometimes worse during menstruation.  

  • Period pain that prevents you from doing your normal activities.

  • Pain during or after sex.

  • Pain when passing urine or during bowel movement.

  • Feeling sick, constipation, diarrhoea, or blood in your urine during your period.

  • Difficulty getting pregnant. Heavy periods.

STAGE 1 - MINIMAL

minimal endometriosis is also called stage 1 endometriosis, and is characterised by isolated implants and no significant adhesions.

STAGE 2 - MILD

Mild endometriosis is characterised by superficial implants that measure less than 5cm in diameter without significant adhesions.

STAGE 3 - MODERATE

Moderate endometriosis involves multiple deep implants, small cysts on one or both ovaries, and the presence of flimsy adhesions.

STAGE 4 - SEVERE

Severe endometriosis consists of multiple deep implants, large cysts on one or both ovaries, and thick adhesions.

Stages of Endometriosis: FAQ

Most patients are found to have stage 1 or stage 2 Endometriosis. The stages are determined at the same time of surgical procedure called laparoscopy, which is used to confirm the diagnosis and treat the condition.
